Better understanding of depression, its symptoms and treatment, is needed

According to Professor Nor Zuraida Binti Zainal, from Malaysia, clinicians dealing with major depression face three major challenges: the fact that patients frequently do not recognize symptoms such as low mood and unexplained tiredness as symptoms of depression; patients' reluctance to seek professional help because of the associated stigma; and their tendency to stop treatment prematurely. These challenges can be met by depression awareness campaign and education.
